The new one...

Evo magazine have VW's press car, it drove past me while I was on my way to work this morning.

Looks a bit odd, great from the front but the side and rear don't really work in the flesh

If they'd made the back end look less like a van, more like a Scirocco/Corrado, it'd look much better I think.

They said on Top Gear that its £150 more than a Golf GTi but has more stuff as standard, so it's about the same as a Golf GTi then

They look alright but I'd rather have a Golf tbh.

Sat on a Golf platform and although marketed as a true 4 seater, the rear space looks fairly limited.
Only available in 1 trim at launch...I like it - and being a VW with some heritage behind its name, its bound to do well with the purists

I don't think the 'purists' like it. Most people who potentially would buy it for the name will be put off because it's not anything like the old ones.

It will be a slow burner Robin. I think the people that previously owned former versions will look to buy one. Certainly some of the mix of buyers will include previous owners. Purists is maybe the wrong word.

It'll definitely be a big seller, I wouldn't be at all surprised if VW have planned to use this as the replacement for the 3 door Golf, just selling the Golf as a 5 door...
