When one of your mates shaves them off on holiday / when you're pissed, how come they grow back so quickly.... but when they're on your face they don't go all bushy?

Because when you shave (anywhere), it stimulates the hair follicles to go through a growth phase. Before they reach their potential and go into a sleep phase.
Every follicle has a growth phase, a resting phase and a shedding phase before repeating.

Depending on where the are on the body the length of each phase varies vastly.

I believe so, the growth phase starts the same but then the hair has been ripped out deep to the root so it is growing all the same, just not to the surface until a week or so later than shaving. If you see what I mean.

It's times like these I start drawing pictures on scraps of paper for my patients!

yeah waxing applies the same jade. The difference is when you shave you dont take from the root and the reason hairs grow back quicker than when you wax is because you already have another hair ready to come through whereas if you wax you take both the hair and the actual root so a new hair has to develop without something being on top
