someone, or a mechanic?

You could prob find someone to do it for you for a case of beer. Would you be happy with that?

Or take it to Vaux and pay 400+

DIY...

If you have the right size tools a torque wrench and a haynes manual... there should be no reason why you cant DIY

Garage would charge £300 - £400

But all you need is a new gasket and a set of new head bolts and a few hours time oh and getting the head skimmed.

Its a piece of piss tbh.

it really isnt that hard.... age shouldnt be an issue! Your brain should be in a better state to learn than if it was older

its just metal..... bolts, and reading

take head of... remove gasket, clean block face, get head checked/skimmed and machine shop... fit new gasket/bolt... tighten in correct sequence to correct torque... reconnect everything, check, double check, triple check.... job done

There is more to it than that, but have a read of a haynes and see what you think. Being defeatist is the easy way out

My brother started at your age messing with engines and he can now strip rebuild and refit an engine quicker than me and i went to college to learn it all he didnt lol

Have a go,if you read the haynes its pretty straight foward, when i first changed one i was scared of messing the timing up but after reading up on it all it was piss easy.

put it this way....

if you pay 400 for a new HG your a fool.... you can get a complete engine ( a better engine no doubt ) for peanuts .... say £150 for examples sake

Garage will charge around £400. Will be worth finding someone to do it privatly if you cant do it.
