Might be taking the CBT soon, however just wondering what sort of bike to go for? Im currently paying insurance of aorund £350 FC for my 2.0DTi astra, admittedly with No Claims etc etc etc
I got some quotes for a 125cc bike and it came out as over £1000 FC for insurance When I tried for a 49cc it came out at a better £350 but Im not sure what the performance difference would be like etc? If the insurance is going to be stupid amounts I wont bother with the test.
Would a 49cc be shite for going to work and back, say 5 - 10 miles a day?

get a rs125 or a cagiva mito, or if you like supermoto's get either a mx 125(rs125 engine) or a dt125 supermoto version

Ive tried getting a quote with RS125 and its stupid amounts. The economy of less fuel bills / repairs / tax of running a small bike would be far outweighed by the cost of insurance on it?

RS and cagiva and such like are going to be fortunes on insurance, thin of the people who have them, plus they are like a mini superbike. Try some of the less plastic fantastic 125s?

Not sure, ive just done an MCE quote (thanks for this site btw,doesnt seem to be any search engines ) and got £403, which is loads better?

but the rest are crap!!!!
and your probally trying the wrong insurers, i paid 386 on my rs125, but that was a 1998 model, just try out mce bike insurers, but you can only do it over the phone

Got some small reviews down the side, prefer the sound of the CBR/NSR/TZR bikes from what has been said there. Im not looking for a fast bike by any thing, im looking for a bike which doesnt sound and look like a scooter but wont get me killed as well lol

well go for a cbr then tzr is two stroke so is the nsr and there both old bikes but the cbr makes a new model every year

TBF if you can afford insurance get something you can afford that gets you from a to b for a year or so to A get experience and B get a year of insurance under your belt.
My Cagiva was £460 for my first year that was with bennets.

CBR seems to be quite expensive. Im not looking to spend a lot of money, maybe im being tight, im on Autotrader and used ones are starting at £1400 and goes up from there. Bought the car for £2000 a month ago 
edit - this is what im thinking Kirsty. Im just wondering if I will struggle on a 50cc bike to keep up with traffic?

lexham insurance are good 400 quid with one claim for me tpft though. thats for a dt125

Avoid RS125, derestricted they aren't learner legal.
They have a fun habit of seizing and needing top end rebuilds.
I would look at stuff like DT125s.

All I need is a bike that can / would do 60mph/70mph comfortably (i.e. not on full throttle) tbh, i would class anything slower as more dangerous because would have cars up my arse all day long. If I can get away with a smaller engined bike (and therefore cheaper) so be it

How much is a CBT course? with test?
How much is the direct access course after that?

your not going to get a 50 that sits at 60-70 easily unless its modded!
the reasons why bikes are expensive is because they hold there value unlike most cars

Alex - the one in Newark is £90 inclusive of all your training, equipment etc
Mobby - didnt think so, i wont be modding anything cos I only want reliability out of it, and Im not going to be upgrading to a proper size bike, not anytime soon anyway. What CC do I need minimum, standard (derestricted) that will sit comfortably at 65mph, and not sound like a scooter (high pitched whine)

doont worry, bikes after a few years hold there value stupidly well, which is why they dont appear cheap.
most 125s wont get above 60 by much, only the two stroke rs 125. most will do about 55-65 depending on weight of rider and if you know how to ride it etc.
do you not want your full test? bear in mind it changes at the end of sept?
125s are good bikes. cant go wrong with a cbr imo

yep, new sections going to be added, lot more maneuvres etc, not sure what they are exactly but are from 32mph seeing as its an eu directive 50kmh=32mph.
anyway long and short of it the changes mean that on test day you do your "off road" section in a designated area before going on to a normal road test.
the problem is not that the test will be impossible, yes it may be harder. but the main reason to get it done now is, many test centres dont have the room for the off road section thus theyll close so you will have a longer trip to your nearest centre, and theyll probably bump up the price for the test.

Out of 200 centers, only 40 will remain (or 60, can't remember).
It will go up to around £1000.
