Hey up guys. My car seems to attract vandalism badly unfortunatly. cant seem to leave it on any carparks etc without something happening to it. and it aint really job friendly with what i do.

Anyway as the car is slowly moving away from being a daily driver, i was wondering how does insurance work out on a second car?(an extremely cheap one). do i need seperate policies? etc? just a tad confused on the matter.

Any advice would be cool, including those who do it, and insurance companies with?

O and do you have to have insurance thats last 1year?, or can you go for 6months each on 2 cars for example?

Cheers, (apologise for questions galore) much appreciated.

Would either have to add the second car to your existing policy or have 2 policies

Can only use your NCB on one policy.

Can insure shorter term than a year like upto 6 months.

some insurers will mirror the no claims onto your new policy, as long as you are the only driver of both cars.

2nd car policies don't tend to be cheap unless it is a classic car policy

e.g a vech thats older than 1993 (say a mk1 vw golf for example) that is a persons second car (weekend use), being used purley for social use and on a limited mileage policy (no more than 6000 miles per annum) prices tend to be between anything from £100-£500 depending on age etc

You can have two cars, ie your corsa luke has its no claims bonus on then say you bought another corsa for a daily driver (as long as you have no claims in the last 3 yrs) you can get a mirror discount on your second car policy

you can also get laid up policies for limited use (eg, for when the car is only being used in the summer for shows)

cheers guys.

Seems the insurance part may be the only financial stumbing part at the moment. i have 3yrsNCB on the corsa. wanted the insurance to be cheap as possible and didnt fancy forking out around £550 for example.

So im guessing its cheaper to add 2cars to 1 policy than take out a second policy?, if so do all insurance companies do this?, guess its just a case of ringing a few up monday.

You need NCB on every different policy.

You can either earn this outright by starting at zero and not claiming, or some insurers will offer introductory bonus or even match it.

Admiral for one will match via their multicar scheme.
