8:58, surely not? Clarkson did a minute more than that in a Jag?

I was sure that to get the 9 minute mark you had to have a quick car, or was that 8 minutes, I don't remember

Paul J got just above 9 seconds so if that vts was on TB or something along those lines it would be possible

Well to help put things into perspective... The new Megane R26R has an unofficial lap time of 8min.15sec which is quicker than a BMW M3 CSL

Didn't say impressive, wasn't much room by the looks of it although graham may be right it might be lack of speed from the golf

fair play, maybe not the smoothest of drivers but hes got the balls to hit turns with loads of speed even with traffic

Few little miss haps but he really is pushing it. Respect

10 minute lap that clarkson did is actually not that bad

If you ask most people who've been and timed themselves they won't get under 10 mins.

My first timed lap i did last year was slow time wise and i felt like i was shifting...

Then slowly you learn to keep flat out through parts etc and I got it down to a low 9 minute lap. (but that was all with a broken car, fucked rear beam, detached rear ARB, broken gearbox).

Problem is, there's a lot of sections which require a powerful car, for example the huge uphill section that actually slows the car down (i.e. you can't accelerate any more it's so steep) - a Porsche can go up it at like 160 mph, where as a 106 / saxo can only do 110 mph up it. It goes on for a good 45 secs - 1 minute. So makes a big difference on times.

The biggest problem with the nurburgring though is just having the balls to keep flat out, you have your foot flat and it's just like 120 mph, 130mph, 140 mph and you're heading down a steap hill that you know has a tight ish bend and big up hill section straight after! - you naturally feel your foot not jamming that throttle so hard any more

My car's in a good condition now (engine's not producing it's best power though), but the suspension is spot on and I've just got some new tyres all round, the gearbox aint bad either! So we'll see what I can do this weekend

Problem is, Weather looks wet and traffic will likely be high... That saxo VTS lap had hardly any traffic. Even on my low 9 min lap I had yellow flag sections and a fair bit of traffic to slow down for.

Now just need to find somewhere I can slyly mount my video camera? I want to record a lap but need to hide it.

9 seconds Yeah was a low 9 mins.

But I want to get sub 9 mins this year, but unsure if I will due to how busy the track is these days and the weather.

Why do you have to hide it? Guessing there's some sort of rule or something, but I'd want to film it too if I went round
