going travelling soon and car will be going off the road...
Im having mixed thoughts..
Do I sell and buy something cheaper when I get back,
or do I just declare sorn and put it back on road when I return in up to 12 months
I dont really want to sell and come back to no car and have to start at the bottom of the ladder again
What would you do?

thats my car for anyone that doesn't know

Sell it out the funds into a high interest saver come back and you will have more money to buy something else?
Basically its only going to depreciate and cost you money in the long run.
Bonus is if for what ever reason you require money at short notice at least you will have it at the ready oposed to sitting there wasting away on the drive?

I can see both points although if you do sell it you will have to be disciplined and do actually put the money in the bank!! Otherwise you may end up spending the cash and like you say come back and start again!

Im very tempted now fad. You speak sense...
Would the intest on say just over 5k be noticeable in a year though?
I'll be a year older when I get back etc and Il prob go and buy something else with a bit of kick to it
like you said, the value will drop in the year and Im only gonna have to re tax it etc etc

Says the guy living with his mum Ok, Jas.
Just goes to show. I don't need some daft car to feel good about myself or amongst my peers on the internet.
So I had a scooby then I fancied gettin a saxo for a bit of cheap motoring. Who cares. Only you obviously.
Still doesn't change the fact you're getting shirty over a fuckin Seat haha

Well Halifax and most banks will offer a hight interest account in the region of 5-6% which your earnings will dpeend on how many times a year it is compounded.
I'd maybe look into bonds if you know you wont need to spend the money which you could get a rate up for 7.5% only issue with this is it will take time to gain access to your money, which I think will be fine as you wont be in the country.
have a look at www.fool.co.uk some great info on finances.
Also look at it this way...its not like you'll never find another Ibiza again is it?
