If you don't want scenes like that, pay more for meat.

Edit - some of this is very old footage - who buys eggs which are not free range now?

A modern abattoir would stun and kill a pig within a few seconds. They're only still alive when their throats are slit if the meat is being prepared to Kosher or Halal standards. There's no cost saving in doing it less humanely.

A few rednecks hitting a pig on the head isn't reflective of the industry. Abattoir walls are opaque but you can go visit one if you're either growing animals or want to buy one and you generally won't see anything of that nature.

i agree, that is the worse end of the industry, and there is no doubt better practices.

There was a programme on Channel 4 a few months back about the truths behind how animals were slaughtered for food production. Was very interesting and extremely humane.

Stunned senseless, throat cut, done. The animals didn't know a thing about it.

As Ian said, the videos picked look like the worst end of the scale, with some carefully worded commentry to make people feel bad.

Thats just cruel. If some cultures want to eat dog, fair enough but theres a better way than that! How someone can do that while the animal is whining away I don't know.

Tbh, everyone eats meat everyday but you never think of how it gets to your plate.Like Ian said, not everywhere treats animals like this, dont forget that these animlas are bred for meat and thats it, i work on a poultry farm with 10,000 birds which are all born to lay egss then be killed for dog food, i kills birds every day that are injured and some that arent injured, do you think thats bad?

They live in pens, some pens have 600 birds in.When i kill them i eather neck them by holding their legs and holding just under their head then pulling outwards and upwards to break the spine then they die, or you hold their neck and whirl them around till their neck snaps.
