Youve got 3 - 3.5k to spend towards a c20let (just getting engine in)
Would you A -
Use someboady like Beardy to do it (drive in drive out £2500) this is going to be standard spec.
Spose you could pay a bit more and get a better spec....
Or B -
Do it all your self which should be cheaper and therefore could build a better spec. 
Only problem is I know fukk all about engine conversions / building so would have to learn as I go along and use here and mig to guide me

beardy because he can prob do em in his sleep and if you havent got a clue/tools/equipment then your buggered from the start

Dont even have to give it a thought. If it was me i would choose A.
I wouldn't know where to start and your first engine conversion being a C20let maybe not a wise choice unless you have a lot of patience and the time to do it

I am thinking option A would be better, its just that theres soo many people who just do it them selves so how hard can it be?
As for tools equipment id obv be able to buy those.
And experiance / knowledge...everyone has to start somewhere.
Id just be scared of cocking it up

Haha yes I know it would be quite erm...challenging but over the past couple of days ive been reading a lot of c20let projects and what not and people just get on with it, yank it out rebuild etc like they could do it with there eyes closed.
What im saying is how did they learn to do all that?? Is it something you can pick up as you go along using help from people online and the good old haynes gods.

People are either mechanics for a living or have picked it up along the way through years of practise on basic engine, and have a few knowledgable mates.

Here's some useful advice - stop thinking the initial cost will be the last money you'll spend on it
Get it in & working. No point in having a good spec if it doesn't work?

tools aint cheap, engine crane and stand depending on what you where doing, yeah everyone starts somewhere but its too much to cock up, id rather put a cheapo xe in and gain soke exp before going for the big ££

Save for longer, and get beardy to do a better spec engine conversion.

the actual engine conversion itself isnt ngoing to be the hard bit its all relatively straight forward and there is wealth of infomation out there covering it. its the engine rebuild that could be tricky id be thinking about doing the conversion yourself but having the engine put together buy an engine builder of which there are plenty in the midlands

Drive up Friday night to my garage i will lend you tools. You take engine out and put new one in with the advice from me.
which will save you some money aswell as learning how to do a few things.
get train home monday (as will take longer then me doing it on my own) leaving the car with me for a week to finsih off the final bits.......

B is loads of fun and a very good place to learn if you don't need the car everyday. But going with C would help you as you would get tips on how to do things, but would spoil the fun part of working it out for yourself.
