I was there on Saturday with 160 Harley Davidson owners; We cut them off in three place to take the photos of the weekend for the Harley Owners Group who had arranged the meet at the Hotel that my missus' runs.

One thing is how bad the surface has got at the Debryshire end!

It is a fantastic road on a clear day, in the snow, fog etc can be really dodgy.. used to love blasting the corsa down there over to matlock.... nearly lost it couple of times, fortunately u live and learn... if your lucky

Yeah I don't use it in winter. I tried once but they were queing cars up in macc and taking them over the top in convoys.

It's named after the pub at the top, Cat and Fiddle.

I think hey diddle diddle junction is where you do a right into hey diddle play with my widdle lane.

Horseshoe Pass in Wales isn't half bad either.

Favourite road is the Buttertubs pass in Yorkshire though, you could go seriously wrong there...

No number, look it up though. It's up in the N. Yorks moors, near Hawes and Thwaite.

If you're up that way it's worth stopping by the Tan Hill Inn, England's highest pub.

Its between to villages called Hawes and Twaite, doesnt have a road number as its a C road ( I Think ) I just looked for Hawes in my road atlas and seen a little star with buttertubs wrote next to it

I do like the cat and fiddle though too ( was a bit snowey the first time I went, and propper foggy the next )

I came down that once as my alternator was on the way out, in the pissing rain and fog. Lost all power, brake servo, lights and wipers, managed to coast it down (luckily it had made the up stretch) and straight into the pub car park at the bottom

Went in, had a few beers, called the recovery and was trucked back to Coventry

I overtook a biker on the buttertubs pass, It was about the 5th time I had been in 7 weeks or so and I was pretty familliar with thats particular strech of road, he was on a y reg ZX9 and plainly had no fucking clue at all what he was doing, he was breaking mid bend and weaving everywhere so I thought... fuck it nice wide bit of road, I gave it a sec to see if he was going to nail it on the straight and he didnt so I went, he was on my arse then till we hit some more bends then I didnt see him....... till about 2-3 mins later on wide country lane, he shot past me at about a ton waving the wanker sign at me

i used to deliver to buxton, eyam, sheffield everyday so i had to go over the cat and fiddle scary in the wet and snow, or when the wind is VERY STRONG ....
