I'd hazzard a guess at £5k+

I remember from when i was racing bikes that sometimes the Superkarts would be at the same meeting. They were immense peices of kit and i'm sure i remember them not being cheap!

I've seen them at Donington Park and if 140+ mph is slow, then what the fuck's fast when your arse is 2" off the floor?

your talking more like 6-7k's worth. But if your looking to race it, you need to buy new regs change just about every year which means you need a new chassis every year. Also if your looking to race properly, budget 20k as a minimum, thats the reason why I'm not karting myself. Looked to get into it when I was about 11 or 12 (5/6 years ago) and I couldn't down to it costing too much!
You need to think about how your going to transport it around (van maybe) accomodation at races, most people have caravans then fuel, food, race fee's, racing license, insurance.

If your not going to race, there is limited places you can run it unless your friends with any airfield owners

ive seen rotax 125s hit 90 plus, looked on tube. only problem is with highly tuned karts you need to rebuild them every 5 races or so

These are 2 strokes! Not some garbage 4 stroke lawn mower engine you would find at your local karting track.

The rotax 125 kart is fucking quick, so 250 will be mental. 2 stroke engines produce more power than 4 strokes
