sent an email to an "independant vauxhall specialist"

went something like this:

quote:
Hello, ive got a corsa b 1.2 8v and ive wasted a fair bit of money trying to
get what i can out of it but now im considering an engine conversion.. the
engine im eyeing up is a 1.6 8v nova engine from the old gte\'s

i was wondering whether you could carry out the conversion? and how much it
would be and also if you could supply the engine?

Thanks
Andy

this is what i received back:
quote:
Hi Andy

Thank you for your email.

We have got some prices for you. These are approx and if you went ahead with
the job we would give you a full price before we started any work.

You would have to supply the engine and the inner and outer cv joints.

The conversion kit will be £465 inc vat.
Labour approx 6 hours at £45 per hour plus vat £318
Oil and Filter £45
Timing Belt Kit £100

Total cost around £930.00

If you decide to go ahead we would need your car year and reg.

We look forward to hearing from you.

surely that isnt right?? i thought the shafts and mounts were the same??

Wiring shouldn't be too bad

I'll let you know how an engine conversion that I'm doing goes!

You don't need CVs, use the 1.2 ones, the shafts, mounts and even 'box can be used, so you don't need them either...

Not really sure what's in the 'conversion kit' TBH

Ask them what the conversion kit is.

I paid 1500 to get a replacement 1.6 16v stuck in my GSi back in the day but that was them supplying everything including engine with under 25k on the clocks, new clutch & belt etc.

Wiring is easy on them, only hard bit is having to extend wires to go inside the car to join the car loom as on the novas gte's the ecu is in the bay

As for that quote

The conversion kit will be £465 inc vat.

There isnt a conversion kit it bolts straight in

Labour approx 6 hours at £45 per hour plus vat £318

seems a bit much but that must just be there rate

Oil and Filter £45

thats a piss take oil and filter would be under £20

Timing Belt Kit £100

again way overpriced

I presume the 6 hours is just for the engine conversion and the oil and filter, timing belt kit etc is including labour for that.
obviously if you say there is no conversion kit needed they won't charge you.

Sounds a fair price. If you don't want to pay it then do it yourself/

£318 expensive for labour to fit an engine? I'd say that was a bloody good price TBH.

Oil and filter, the filter is £4.19 plus VAT from Vauxhall, the oil would be about £20 plus VAT, so that sounds like a fair price to me.

The whole price sounds right actually, they've got to make a profit or there's no point...

Sounds like a Kev Glover special? But for that price, you may as well have a crack yourself!

Indeed. I know him from school, and if he knows the conversion like the back of his hand, there's no need for bumpy prices!
