Ive read somewhere that only until recently diesel exhaust pipes had to point downwards because of the fumes/soot that tends to come out the back of them? Would this mean I couldnt upgrade my drainpipe standard exhaust to the Irmscher twin ended for example?
edit - is the Irmscher one simply aesthetics only and nothing performance/audible wise? (this is basically what im after, maybe, when I need to replace it)

the new ones have particulate filters on, but i can't see why you can't change the exhaust, its not that smoky is it?
