When you are looking to buy something new which is of high value do you plan in advance???
Just asking because I found myself worrying about costing for an Astra GSI and I'm not even looking to get one until next year!?!?!?!
I guess it's good to be prepared

I always do, its sensible really as you need to consider all the costs before buying something
If you didnt you'd end up caught short and could get in quite a sticky situation

i keep a check list of every outgoing payment i have to make every month.
then i make sure it comes under my basic income each month.
e.g
i earn £1700 basic a month after all deductions.
£414 car finance
£180 insurance
£120 housekeeping
£ 45 phone contract
these are the essentials that have to be paid each month.
then i look at what i need to run the car and live etc.
£200 petrol
£ 40 food/drink for work
£ 30 toilettries
£ 20 takeaways
would mean i have £650 to either spend on clothes/bits for car etc or going out or investing.
so i make sure i have enough free money each month to live comfortably without having to worry about doing more hours at work or earning more money to enjoy a good lifestyle.
always keep a checklist as it means you won't forget any payments or take too much money out the bank meaning your payment takes you overdraft.

I did also create a small spreadsheet, working out how much it would cost for the car for example:
Car Itself - £7500
Insurance - £960
Stage 1 - £499
Dump Valve - £100
Safety Money - £500 (which I think is far too much)
Then you have the income side of things:
Loan - £9000
Sell Car - £1000
Savings? - £500?
Wages - ???

If you pay £7500 for an Astra GSI in a years time i hope it's got 1k miles on the clock and running 400bhp!
In a years time you'll pay £6500 for one tops.
