Not being funny but would it not have been better to have failed than to get a 3rd level degree?

Not really. Prospective employers ask "so what have you done for the passed 3 years?", ermmm dossed at Uni and failed a degree, yet still with debt. Having a degree and doing the full term at Uni is better than having no degree and doing full term.

yes having nothing to show for 3 years work is much better than having 'something'

Respectable perfessions such as sciences etc, will require that you state your degree, but most don't and just want you to state that you have one or not. And you don't have to list your grade on your CV either.

I know. But a gap in your history is worse than a 3rd level degree imho.

I'd rather someone had the tenacity and determination to go to Uni and actually scrape through (after all they may not be that bright) with a 3rd, then go and completely fail or sit on their ass for 3 years etc.

when looking at graduate posts most that I have been looking at are wanting a 'graduate', no mention of level/grade.

Failing + re-sitting could potentially mean re-doing an entire year again. This would mean even more debt, stress, another year older before I can start to earn a decent wedge and start my life off properly

...this way I can get a graduate job, even if its at the bottom of the ladder and in time experience will become more valuable than grades

Well done matey! Bet its such a good feeling-Hopefully ill be there leaving this time next year.

And yes- most places dont actually ask for the grade, its mainly just about having "degree" mentioned on Your CV.

Thanks Luke, cant describe how it feels tbh

I think its only the top jobs that want to know grades and then they are looking for a 1st, otherwise its all good I guess it depends on the industry too tbh
