They can do insurance checks to see if your car is modified.. Not sure if they can see what specific mods they are.
And yeah, id delete it

Ive never declared nothing, if they ask just tell them its declared, thats all i did
Most people on here will now have a moan, and say declare everything.
If you want one you dont have to declare, get an insurance quote with Brentacre, they quote you on power, not mods. So if you wanted a quote on a Redtop Corsa, they will allow it to run at 150bhp, no more, for a certain price, any body mods, i.e wheels, lowering, lights etc doesnt matter, aslong as the engine doesnt exceed 150bhp, but if you want to mod the engine, ring them up and get them to up your bhp limit. Pretty cool company.

TBH whats the point in taking insurance out
soon as they check and find out they will bend you over and shag you up the ass plus you will have to pay out all your cash IF you crash.
really not worth the bother,
my mate got banned not so long ago he got a 6months ban due to not telling his insurance he had wheels and a kit.

Got caught out myself not disclosing mods after an accident.
Insurance wouldnt have paid out but lucky it wasnt my fault and the underwriters just said pay the extra for the mods

After i picked my Pulsar up i got home and got pulled for a small front number plate.
I was in the car with 1 of the officers when the other guy checked over my car.
He came back and askd if the rollcage had been decleared, asked if the big brakes and wheels were standard and if the FMIC had been declared.I told him i had just got the car and needed to check over the receipts/mods on the car b4 i could declare them.He was sound with it and said itd be best to tell them everything as they are happy to take ur money but will do anything not to pay out if i was to claim after an accident.
The police themselves cant check all the mods but they do have ppl that can. They were out in force 1 night down the local prom/cruise hotspot and they had 2 guys with them that were checking over cars to see if the mods had been declared.
My GF is with Endsleigh and her car is declared with the XE.Dosnt say engine conversion on the doccys, just has higher engine power output.

Wrong, in fact the DPA has specific exemptions which ALLOW access to records if there is legal reason to do so. You'll more commonly find this law used where records related to people though, not things like vehicles or insurance policies.
In this case the Police can establish at the road side whether the car is declared as modified on the insurance policy. It would then be up to them to decide, either at the pull or if they really deem it necessary after impound and inspection, whether the car is in fact modified. If it is established that it is, and if the insurer then voids the policy you would be uninsured and therefore liable for an IN10. In Merseyside, as may be the case for other forces, they would also keep the car.
Do bear in mind that this is a fairly serious combination of events, particularly in relation to a Police Officer at the road side instigating a lengthy and expensive check where he is not 100% sure. Plus the insurer needs to void the policy. Normally has there not been a claim they will ask for an adjustment of premium and this will cover you.
The exceptions being if your car is available for inspection anyway, ie. it is recovered by the Police after an accident, or if you are to blame and the insurer doesn't offer the option to adjust the policy.
Summary -
- If you're never pulled it doesn't matter.
- Even if you are, you need an officer who knows what to look for (assuming it is obviously not OE spec of course)
- Even if you do, you are still insured until the insurer cancels.
- The insurer will usually just take more money and cover it but they're not obligated to do so.
- If you crash and it's your fault, forget it, you're screwed.
Can I ask you to consider my final point most strongly.

My mate was told "policy is void" due to not letting insurance know about mods so he got done with no insurance.
really isnt worth the bother.

My mate was stopped last week to have his exhaust noise tested
his car is reg'das a 1.0corsa but has a redtop
They checked under the bonnet, and called his insurance to check the details
he was charged with having modified parts on his car,
engine
headlights
lowering kit
exhaust
rear lights
bucket seats
rollcage
brakes
etc...
Each one carries a charge of fradulent insurance each with maximum of 6points
I think its safe to say he's walking
