if you want that camera then try:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-FinePix-S5800-Digital-Camera/dp/B000V9P5NC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213391260&sr=8-5

Or i prefere a manual zoom as it doesnt use any battery power so maybe look at this (slighlty out of price range):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuji-FinePix-S9600-Digital-Camera/dp/B000INUDMY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213391260&sr=8-4

I used to have this camera and this is a shot taken stright from the camera:

Hosted on Fotki

Only reason why i got rid so quicky is because i wanted a D-SLR.

I know I'm not mentioned in the thread title but I would highly recommend a Fuji Film S6500. I paid £103 for mine second hand and it's got all the features and gadgets someone has an interest in photography but isn’t a pro would need IMO. Good zoom good iso, aperture settings, fully manual, long shutter speed etc etc

See.....
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=430007

EDIT: ^ It has a manual zoom so it doesn't eat batteries i think it gives you better control that way as well

Mega pixels mean nothing, they arejust a way of selling cameras, anything more than 5 is more than enough

I was using a S6500, the first time I used the SLR was at PVS

get a low end Nikon on Canon, not sure which model it is for nikon, but Canon have just released the 450D, you should be able to get a 400D with a kit lens for around £350-£400 and will have loads of stuff to learn with them bodies.

Something like the D40x/D70s/D60 would be Nikons equivalent.

Also for people who havent read the instructions i would do so. When i got my D300 i spent hours and hours reading it cover to cover. Its well worth doing.

I have no idea mate, dont no much about them. Just don't get hung up on the MP that every budget camera seems to band around. Ive seen some with more MP than my D300

Anything over 5 is fine unless you are planning on printing your photos on a billboard.

Have a read of some reviews on the tinterweb, see which comes out on top

that isnt a true SLR. meaning you dont get as much flexibility. but its totally up to you. Im so glad I jumped into the DSLR pool straight away, though I had experinence using DSLR's before I actually bought 1.

You will struggle to get a true DSLR for £150 though

well I'd research and read reviews on D40x/D70s/D60, I'm a canon user using a 350D but if I was a first time buyer I'd more than likely try and get a deal on a 450D or a second hand 400D.

you would be looking at £300, in which case if you couldnt afford it then S6500 would be a viable option.

Can you pick a 350d off ebay for £150?

That'd be my choice, or similar aged Nikon if I wanted the most flexibility

d40 with a lens off eBay is about £180.

Save a bit more money and either get the d40x, or the d60. Worth it imo.

with the intro of the 450D I'd be on the hunt for a cheap 400D if I didnt have a body already.
