as some will know i work for Marshall Aerospace as such hear all about our projects

The A400, the Airbus version of the Herc, and will replace the RAF fleet of Hercs has its engine test performed by MA.

during the build it was clear it was a big engine



with the propeller attached there is less than 8 inches cleance between the propellers tip and fuselage!

that one engine is more powerful than two K series C-130 engines but forget that.....look at the size of those chocks!!

Why do some planes still use this type of engine? isn't a bit dated now?

dated yes,

but it still has its applications, everything has its advantages and it is suited to the application the aircraft will be in use for.

the IC engine is dated but is still used in cars, and in training aircraft purely because its the most appropriate engine for the job.

Nearly as big as a Trent 900. They had to fit a smaller engine on the side of the test engine as the 900 is so big...

Looks like it. They only fit one engine for testing incase it lets go and it can't be fully tested on the ground as it needs to be taken to altitude.
