My brother just applied for a job, group called oracle advertising and basically they are looking for people to donate to charity £1.50 a week.
purely commision based 10.30am-8.30pm working hours 5 days a week
£25 per sign up, now im thinking is there a catch to working for companies like that? i know personally i wouldnt want to do it, or give my bank details on my door step to some kid that just joined a couple of days ago...
any1 had experience of working for agencies like that? because im worried for him, they are ok to hire him even tho they know he will be going on a 4 week holiday next month, and he is a student so will be leaving in september?

they usually go for students, i did similar for 4 weeks and gave up, it was commision baswed no basic selling for a Npower through a 3rd party,
i was leaving the house at 6:30am to get to leeds for 7:30 then not getting home till 10/11 oclock on a night, alot of work for very little money imo.
this is who i worked for, http://www.etmmarketing.co.uk/ was a good laugh the lads i worked with were great, let him try but i wouldnt put pressure on him not to do it.
he will be classed as self employed so will have to sort his own tax out etc, but can claim back on receipts for most things

I cold call for a living...but my cold calling is B2B so not as bad. Also I have a decent salary along side my comission. I love sales and find cold calling a challenge.
You have to be pretty resistant to take a cold calling job, you will get abuse etc. I have been offered jobs with npower, e-on and british gas, and there is no way i would take them just for the safety factor being a female alone cold calling on peoples houses. The energy companies have fantastic sales training that i think would beneift any sales person.
As for the charity people, we have them in town everyday trying to get you to sign up to donate to Great Ormand street hospital, and I am not ashamed to say I have made a official complaint against the charity.
They pestered me through town 9 times in one day, and even when I said no, they followed me along the road for a good 30 metres pestering me trying to talk to me each time.
You do have to be pushy in sales to get the comission but i think following people when they have said 'no im not interested' is out of order.

i did cold calling for TalkTalk, did it for about 2 months, it was crap work, really crap, i wouldnt bother if i was you

I went for 2 interviews for a 'senior marketing role' last year which gave me all this sell about progressing really quickly and being on £50k within months etc. I was tentative to say the least and found out why when at the end of the 2nd interview they sent me out to see what they do ('from the bottom up') which turned out to be door-to-door with a load of students selling sky deals even the students were trying to sell it to me, I don't know if they were dilusional or just got commision for getting people to stick at the job. I watched this one lad try and sell to about 5 people and then told him I was off
I don't like the way these companies operate, they wasted my time BIG time and I dislike door-to-door or cold calling even more now
