On my way to Pv- theres a stretch of road with green signs saying something along the lines of "times checking" and the lane control.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Is it speed camera related?

Do 100mph and see if anything comes in the post. If not, then i'm guessing that it's not to do with speeding.

It was on the road going it to Wellingborough I think. Dual carriage way after the weird round-a-bout junctions (Heading back for the M6)

If they're what I saw last year driving to the motorway to go north following sat nav then it's an average speed check speed camera setup.

I've just up dated my tomtom satnav and it gave me the option to send them info on the duration that it's taken me on my jurneys with the satnav, so that they can give a better arrival time in the future.

they have one of these on the M42

Latest Update
Following the completion of the essential maintenance work between M42 junctions 10 - 11. A new Traffic Order has been affected that reintroduces the trial restricting lorries over 7.5 tonnes from overtaking on a three mile stretch on the northbound carriageway.

This will come into effect on midnight Saturday 8th April 2006.

We will monitor before, during and after the trial to see how effective it is. The trial will run for up to eighteen months to assess its effectiveness as a solution to traffic queues and in minimising the risk of accidents caused by the slow moving vehicles.

The first six months of the trial will be a consultation period. If you wish to comment please contact us using the information provided on the Contact Information page, a link to which can be found on the right hand menu.

The Project
In an attempt to reduce congestion and give better journey time reliability to road users, the Highways Agency has introduced a trial restricting lorries over 7.5 tonnes from overtaking on a three-mile stretch of the northbound M42 between Junction 10 (Tamworth) and Junction 11 (Appleby Magna).

The M42 between Junctions 10 and 11 is only 2 lanes wide, with a long uphill gradient on the northbound carriageway. Because of this, heavy lorries slow down and when they try to overtake each other, it can block both lanes, slowing down traffic for several miles.

By restricting northbound lorries over 7.5 tonnes to the inside northbound lane, the outer lane is clear for faster, lighter traffic. The Highways Agency aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety. We expect journey times to be improved and for traffic to flow more smoothly.

We will monitor before, during and after the trial to see how effective it is. The trial will run for up to 18 months to assess its effectiveness as a solution to traffic queues and in minimising the risk of accidents caused by slow moving vehicles.

Passenger coaches permitted to travel at speeds up to 70 mph will not be affected by this restriction.

The trial commenced on Monday 10 October 2005, and will run daily from 7am to 7pm. It will last up to 18 months.
Signs have been installed on the M42 to inform motorway users of the lane restrictions.

The first 6 months of the trial will be a consultation period. If you want to comment please contact us using the information provided on the Contact Information page, a link to which can be found on the right hand menu

Sounds like you were on the A14. It's a journey time experiment thing. iirc, lorries aren't allowed to overtake at all, so have to sit in the slow lanes. That road is so low when lorries are on it, that when lorries overtake, it causes major tail backs.

Nothing to do with speed really.

Ah right sounds like a got answer to ease rush hour traffic tbh. Lorries can be a pain in the bum when trying to overtake another lorry doing 59 mph
