Thinking of getting a machine polisher, i dont need anything serious to correct paint. Just looking for something to make buffing polish and wax of a quicker and easier job.

Will one of those polishers you get for around £20 to £30 do the job and any recomendations.

i asked a similar question elsewhere yesterday:

there are lots available from ebay or car accesory shops.

i was bought one a couple of years back.
not the grinder style ones, but the cheap 2handled ones that you have to put a bonnet on.

I know they're never going to be as good as the proper ones with adjustable speed and that, but are they actually useful or do you do a better job by hand?
there must be a reason why they're only circa £20, and i assume it's because they're toilet.
any gen?

For cleaning as opposed to cutting, so if you wanted to give it a quick clean/polish with some autoglym paint renovator or similar be ideal, save a lot of arm work.

I wouldnt use a rotary unless you know what your doing. my mate is a valeter and hes madea few mistakes now and again.. go for a duel action rotary Meguiars g220, about 180 quid for a full kit, but cant really do any damamge to the paint.

the slow one that are less than £30 won't do any damage unless you put sand in the bonnet

the fast grinder style ones can burn it, but they're £150+ anyway.

i dont want a rotary as im not looking to cure any paint or correct it.

I was just wondering if one of those cheap polishers with the bonnet on will make life easier then doing it by hand.

I looked at the Megs g220 but £180 is a bit steap to remove polish and wax every now and then.

Ive never used one and like myke said above theres obviously a reason why they are £20 or £30, but if its better then hand then it will do.

I heard the halfords ones were a bit plop and the bonnets didnt hold on very good.

I saw these on auto express the other night.

Cosmo cordless £32

Kinzo £15

Halfords £29.99

I have one that looks very similar to that Kinzo one, although it's a different brand.
only used it a few times, and with that you get the bonnets coming loose too. they don't fly off or anything when it happens, they just stop spinning and stick to the car.

If you are working by hand and prep the paintwork correctly with a clay and use decent products like Autoglym SRP by hand and a Good Paste Wax such as Collinites or Poorboys or any of the other paste waxes (they are the cheaper ones ive mentioned).
Then....
You really should not need a machine to remove polish or wax, all you should require is minimum effort with 3 or 4 microfibre towels. By minimum of effort I mean 3 rubs of each area should pretty much remove all the polish or wax.
If you find the products difficult to remove, then they are probably pretty poor products or you will not have cleaned, cleansed or clayed the car properly.

Ive recently moved on to a Meguires G220 Polisher, but to go with that you really need a good set of pads, Powerful Torch, Halogen Lights, Microfibre cloths, Polishes etc etc which soon ends up costing £300+

I really would not recommend a rotary to a beginner unless you have a paint thickness gauge and have had tuition or read alot of instructions on how to use one properly.

I use
Megs paint cleaner,
AG SRP,
Colinite 476.

I wouldnt say they are really hard to buff off, but after doing a 3 step yesturday it would be nice to know theres an easier way next time

I dont think ill go for a rotary anyway, i just thought those cheap buffers amy give me a easier life

How much you selling for John??

Personally wouldn't bother with the buffer things, they don't correct paint at all and cause trails and as Myke said the bonnet things clog up and fly off. For just removing polish and wax you're better off by hand imo. For correction a G220, UDM or rotary with decent pads.

For everybody that wants to know because i've had a couple of u2u's so far.

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Meguiars_G220_Starter_Kit_1.html

That kit, used once, i used the cutting and buffing heads and a little of each compound to try and get rid of scratches in my roof but haven't got the patience.

150 delivered.
