I'm not sure though cos i thought they were meant to be sore...

I've got a golfball sized lump just below where the band where my trousers normally sit, but over towards my right thigh. I can push it in, but it pops out if i tense my stomach

Anyone ever had one before? Do they heal themselves?

If it's not causing any discomfort nah, give it a name and keep it as a pet.

Should be repaired, as a matter of reasonably urgency.

Basically part of your bowel is popping through a weak part of the abdominal wall. The problem is that if this bowel becomes strangled by the hole through which it protrudes. Then you have an effective bowel obstruction.

Which is a Surgical emergency and very serious.

So yes, go to your own docs for a referral to the general surgeons soon please!

I'm working as a removal man for the next two days. I hope that doesn't do anymore damage.
I'll go to the docs after that.
Cheers.

you have a hernia, i had one and it was similar to yours. Thing is it will only get bigger as the abdominal wall will get weaker and the whole will get bigger. Also they don't hurt that much normally but i was playing football and the shooting pains i were getting made me sick. Go to the hospital, they'll put your bowell's back where they should be and cover the whole with mesh (thats what they did to me anyway) i recovered fully in about 4 weeks

Of course Strangulation of bowel via hernia is quite rare. And you'll likely be ok to continue as planned pre-docs.

But as a doctor, I would be negligent if I didn't advise that you don't do any heavy work or activity that involves u straining any abdo muscles. Even heavy coughing should be off the menu. lol

Repair is relatively easy/quick, there are quite a few methods but I note you are in Stonehaven, I suspect they will mesh it. And your looking at 1-2 weeks recovery and around 4 til able to lift heavily. (At a guess, I'm not sure what NHS Grampian policy is)

Thats a pretty quick recovery, must have had keyhole surgery. I had mine repaired with mesh(sprayed black of course) 6 weeks ago and I just went back to work yesterday, although I work in an office and the doc said no lifting, hoovering, long distance driving etc for another 6 weeks. The surgery itself depends on the seriousness of the hernia, could be either open mesh repair(upto 12 weeks recovery) or keyhole(2 weeks recovery). I had open mesh and the pain for 2 weeks after was awful, had 15 metal staples in it which were really painfull. I sneezed about a week after the surgery and was in tears of pain. I'd get it checked out quickly if I were you, a lad at work left his and ended up having half his bowel removed in emergency surgery

Yes, but less obvious.
You can't really see it unless you're looking for it.
I can feel the difference from side to side though.
If i push the lump back in, and use the muscle that forces out a fart, it pops back out again.

Well i survived a 10hr shift working as a removal man, and it didn't get any worse. Still no pain or anything, which is good.
I'm going to the doctors tomorrow anyway, just to get it checked out.
