What do people think of them? How easy/hard is it to increase the power?

Thinking of buying one if one comes about in the right price range.

Cheers

Good at what they do, built from kit kat wrappers and blue tac.

Emm 182 exhuast manifolds apparently get you 10 bhp, theres inlet manifolds stamped RS that do something or other.

RS Tuner sell a kit for your laptop to remap them yourself.

Cambelts need replaced at 5 years/72k, 500 quid job.

Rattle quite a lot.

Its a high revving NA engine, so to get big power will cost you. Brilliant out the box though.

Mine certainly does rattle, worst car i've owned by far and thats including an old escort and and 2 corsas, I didn't buy it for it's build quality though.

Seating position is also terrible, like driving a bus.

Has more grip round corners than I have bottle though.

Easily the best car i've owned for fun annd dead reliable...mine gets some hard use too!

Much better build than my B and my doesnt rattle either!

Servicing is a bit steep but its to be expected with this type of car.

Have to be driven hard but when kept above 5k its quite brisk and very rewarding to drive

Fantastic cars with very good ability, although not too forgiving.
The 172 was great in standard form. Makes the 197 feel 'muted'.

so true, typical french afterthought

Havnt had to many probs with mine although as mentioned parts and servicing can be expensive. Also can be a bitch to work on, had to change the headlight and ended up having to take off the arch, inner arch, front bumper

I love mine though and are good at doing what they do, being good fun to drive, pritty fast and cheep

nice cars, had one in today on the ramp as a sales car 53 plate, the exhaust was blowing needed a selacter shaft seal on the gear box and cam belt and accessory belt, really easy to take the engine and box out of them, this is same on the 182's the cam belt and accesory belt is just really orquad to do as there is little room to get youre hands in there

My sisters 172 Cup doesn't rattle at all

The clutch position took ages to get used to coz its so high.

Sucks that the exhausts get rusty really quick and fall off, expensive to replace too.

ive had 2 and loved both of them! out of the box they are fantastic value, nothing will match the handling standard. With a set of eibachs its far far better, it gives you that little bit more confidence to push the car nearer the limits, however you are unlikely to reach the limits on normal roads, driving properly that is! gotta watch a light back end on lift off!

My second one hada 3.5k tuning package on it and was running 205-210bhp, and boy it was quick! But tuning as mentioned is quite pricey but well worth it!

I heard a car of GTi 106 variety was pretty snazzy for handling.

P.S. I was being sarcastic with the '' post
