It's been like this for quite a bit, even before the prices started going up daily.
With diesel 12p dearer than petrol I worked out that at current average mpg it would cost me 6 quit more over 1800 miles to fuel my clio than it would have my fabia.

I do roughly 25k a year, I still think its cheaper.

I also know this, but I get the same MPG round town as a petrol and higher on the motorway. PLus my tax is much cheaper than a similar performing petrol.
But, saying all this, I'm looking at trading down to a petrol later this year.

I'd buy a diesel shit car if i could afford it. Just for long journeys. Not for every day though, not worth it.

I have done 10,000 miles in the last 3 months at roughly 50mpg, by todays prices that is £1300 in 3 months.
Had I been using my corsa getting about 35mpg I would have paid £1685
Im pleased I'm using my derv Ibiza now

i wouldn't get a budget shit diesel without a turbo attached.
but i would definitely think about getting a 'performance' diesel one day.

For the examples they choose may be, but for others, probably not.
Most Corsa C's are priced similarly. The 1.3CDTi has a bit of go, low low tax, low insurance and good fuel economy. I bet a 1.4 16v will cost a lot more to run.
Totally depends on the mileage, and what you had before getting the diesel.

I just love the way they drive, I dont plan on getting a petrol again anytime soon, sooo lazy and 2K RMP at 75 on the motorway

There is that as well.
Dad got a more sensible, cheaper car to run. I said even though the 120d might cost more to buy and fill up, it'd probably be a better drive, especially on long journeys than a 120i.
Also, the torque means less frequent gear changes and a more relaxed drive. Always changing gear in the 12v
