Right basically i've been seeing a bird since Christmas but she lives down south and i'm in Manchester so we've not got (well i've not got) very close. I like her alot but not as much as a girlfriend and would rather be single. The problem i have is that i know her through one of my best mates so need to handle it carefully, plus its her birthday next Wednesday and i'm due to see her this weekend and go out with her and her friends.
Either way its gonna end, but don't want to be a complete shit and ruin her birthday.
When should i end it?

I'm thinkin a fair bit and without sounding big headed i know she's in love with me, just a shame its not mutual. Would prefer to do it now to get it out of the way but think i'll have to wait

Disregard her feelings for a moment and ask yourself what YOU think the easiest option is. The easiest route only has one advantage - it's easy. Sometimes you have to make decisions which in the long term will benefit both of you, even if it's the one that will hurt her the most.

Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. It's easy for them to have an opinion on what to do because it's not them who has been put in the situation. If you do wait till after her birthday, how do you decide how long you should wait?! It will be just as bad stringing her along for x amount of days than ending it a week before her birthday

She might get the rong idea if you buy her birthday stuff and act like its all great. If u want to end it, tell her that the distance is a factor and as much as you like her, u feel you would both be better off pursuing relationships closer to home, but send her a birthday card as a back up, because at least then she knows you still thought about her birthday, and didn't dump her because your a tight bastard haha.
