Cant afford SnapOn or Mac Tools but want something semi decent.

Cant be arsed with eBay because im still waiting for my paypal account so sort out..

Im mainly after Plier sets, breaker bar and torque wrench.

Be carefull with screwfix, sometimes the quality is appauling. I got 2 planes from there, and both were terrable, only fit for a kids toy box

Halfords is very good, got alot from there but they dont do good torque wrenches or breaker bars.

Ordered a few things of Machine Mart. Think im going to now

Halfords do fantastic torque wrenches, and as Phil said, they have a lifetime guarantee on them too.

Debating whether to save for a second hand Snap On box of eBay....

Any of my mates or myself have never had a problem with Halfords toolboxes. although they aren't particularly cheap.

You should have got the £200 set when its on sale though Jake, £99.99, fantastic value! Not any cheaper on trade then though

The only snap on things in my experince worth buying is ratchets.

Wouldnt bother with a tool box its just going to get dirty scratched etc.

and when you start you only need the basics,just build it up as you go along.

thats a decent starter tool box tbh.

I did mate, got it for my birthday when it was on offer

Tbh, id rather spend all i could afford on the snap on van than in halfords, even if it ment i got half the stuff.

There doing a bluepoint 3/8 socket set for 100 atm, good deal that for what you get.

People who use tools all day long will know u can feel the difference.

tbh i have some stuff halfords and some snap on, yea a couple of times ive broke a couple of halfrods sockets but they have always been replaced no questions asked, i have no problems buying halfords stuff, as i think some of there stuff is very good like the rachet spanners never had any problems with mine

I know the lifetime guarentee etc is really good. but the quality of the tools is alot less.

When i fit my spanner on something, i want a very tight fit. not a sloppy fit, that leads to rounding off etc.

Snap on aint all that tbh,its just a designer name.

Only snap on thing i like is likei said is the ratchets i like,never found halfords stuff to be a sloppy fit.

And i done my 3 year apprenticeship with ford and they even told us dont be attracted to the name snap on.but they do make all their own tools in ford

and for air guns/tool etc,i found sealey just as good as snap on

As for the sealey air guns being as good as the snap on ones, they aint even close.

I guess its because you guys all work on cars. I work on HGV's and if i was to use a sealey gun. Which the workshop supply 1 per shift, i couldnt undo half the stuff i could with my snap on one.

Ill admit, things like allen keys etc aint much different. But the ratchets, spanners, sockets etc are in a different league to be honest.

When i worked in fords all we used was sealy air tools and they worked fine and most the time we was working on the 7.5 ton lorrys/vans. never had a problem with ours still have mine in my chest still going strong since i bought it 9 years ago
