I got my boot lock surround in the post yesterday, so that I can replace my nasty scratched one with a colour coded one, but the one I got isn't exactly the same as mine, I'm guessing this one came off a pre-facelift model.
Anyway, this one has a white bit behind the griffin and I can't make up my mind what colour to do it. I'm going to do all the black Arden Blue, but was thinking of making the white bit gloss black so the griffin stands out nicely.
Any opinions? Cheers.

That one is off a post-97, so don't understand why your 12v hasn't got one, as the 12v was introduced post-97 as far as I know.
Your plans sound interesting, worth a go. It might have a white background because it's faded or polish spill.

Cheers for all the replies
My surround is the same as the one in Tom's pic, apart from the Opel badge. This one has the white bit as a separate piece of plastic stuck on, recessed into hte surround. You should be able to see it a bit better here:

There's a little bit that's come off at some point, but I should be able to fix that.
Oh yeah, when it comes to painting it, should I clean it off and put the plastic primer on then a few layers of colour, or try and smooth it off a bit first? It's smoother than my current one, but still a bit textured, so I wondered if you would still be able to see it through a couple of layers of paint.

It took me three weeks to get this one so I'd like to enjoy this one for a bit first
The original plan was to just get the badge off, colour code it and put the badge back on, but with this one being different to mine it's time for a slight change of plan I reckon, hence the thread as I can't make my mind up

I've been meaning to do this for a few days but oh well Little bit of an update, I've done the logo bit in the middle black. They had ran out of gloss black at Halfords so I got some Black Sapphire instead. Keeping it all Vauxhall colours
To sort the cracked bit at the bottom out, I used Bondmaster resin based adhesive, and cut a bit off to make it the right shape after I took the masking tape off. It needs some paint sticking in it, though, so that'll get done when I've finished the rest of it.
Here's a pic of the Black Sapphire for your enjoyment until the rest is done (been a bit lazy the last couple of days - only done the plastic primer on the main part).
Usually I wouldn't make a thread for such a small thing and keep it updated, but I'm not going to do a lot to this car and I already had this thread so why not
Anywho, sorry about the long post, here's the pic:

Looks like one to me. my post 97 doesn't have a recess for the badge. that looks to me like a pre 97 boot lock with post 97 badge fitted.

The mystery solved
I haven't primered the rest yet but I do have an excuse haha. It was raining when I got up and I have to go to a company in about 20 mins to have a chat about a job but I'll do it when I get back if it's dry

I put the lacquer on today so other than sticking the logo back on, it's finished
I took the last one again with the flash, al the pics of mine in this thread are a bit grainy because of cameraphone
Blue on

Masking tape off

With the flash

My mate's coming over shortly to give me a hand putting it on (could probably do it myself but you never know when you'll need an extra pair of hands ) so I'll have a pic of it on the car with the badge on then.

The black bit is where the badge goes, they had it like that on pre-facelift models apparently.
Fitted it tonight Good job I got my mate over because he had to hold the boot down a bit so I could do it all I'm not particularly short or anything (about 5' 10") but it was still too high up haha.
Here's a pic of it on the car

The only annoying part is that it's a few ml smaller than the original one, so there's a gap round the edge Looks spot on though imo, the black works really well.
