Right just been to Tesco with my mum. While there I decided to get booze and munchies for tonight. Lobbed it all into mums trolley (I'd left my purse and bag out in the car)
We get to the checkout, I walk through and stand at the end. Mum puts the stuff up onto the belt, the guy serving us (he looked about 12 :lol checks everything through except the booze. He then puts a message through the intercom asking for the manager. Mum asks whats going on, he says BOTH of us need to show ID, my mum's 50 FFS!!! My ID's out in the car so mum tells me to go get it, she checks her bag but doesn't have any ID with her. He refuses to serve us, even though he's now seen my ID - insisted that he needed to see ID from BOTH of us, WTF?!!!
She tells him where he can stick the belt full of messages and walks out Surely he was wrong - when I produced my ID he should have ok'd the sale?
*Sorry for the rant*

The manager needs shooting aswell.

The manager never actually reached the checkout, mum had thrown a wobbly and walked out before he got there

Like that in my local Tesco, especially on Friday/Saturday night.
Unless everyone in the queue that is biying booze has ID they wont serve you

No, because she went storming back in on her own - got more booze from the shelves for me and went to a different checkout and bought it no questions asked

Because, by the sound of it, he's under 18 he has to ask for i.d or get permission from a member of staff over 18 to serve you. You would have got served straight away if the manager had arrived before your mum left, and he only needed i.d from one of you to serve you. I work at tesco so i no lol.

Absolute farce.
My mates old man got refused 2 bottles of table wine with their weekly shop because his wee brother, who was 20 anyway, never had id with him. How the fuck does that work?

Unlucky.
I occasionally get refused coz I don't carry ID around with me. I'm 26 and look it so don't see the need.

Tesco has been forced into this position by the stance the authorities have taken with them in the past. Tesco new policy also says that the store management team must always 100% back a decision made by a checkout operator

With a 50 year old women?
It's a joke and all it does is enpower spotty wee tramps to knock genuine people back from buying alcohol.

I couldnt buy booze in London tesco cos I walked in with the wife.
Altho shes over 18 she left her id at home, I was the one buyin and paying for the booze but i still wasnt allowed it as I had walked in with her, so i crossed the road and bought some from Sainsburys instead

i'd i.d you jade but obviously not your mum it's pathetic!
last time i was with mates who were clearly over 18 and they wouldn't serve us because one didn't have i.d, we just left it there, told them to fuck off and walked out

It really is a joke, when I was underage & just starting out on my drinking career we never bought booze from supermarkets anyway cos it was too expensive. Have these days changed
