Saw it in my handbook the other day, something like when you lift your foot off the accelerator the fuel supply is cut off and something about (written in bold) do not declutch.

Is this for when you are going down a hill for example? Cos I tend to chuck a car into neutral and coast down hills, should I not be doing this?

You'll pick up more speed in neutral and fry your brakes doing that.

Over run is when you accelerate and then let off the throttle without putting your foot on the clutch of putting it into neutral.. if you are coasting your not using you engine to aid braking which can be dangerous.

So its actually using less fuel sitting at 2000RPM down a hill than it is putting it in neutral, hmmm thats interesting. Also why will it fry my brakes if im not using them?

caue when your rolling in gear you have the compression of the engine doing a bit of braking for you

in neutral you have a full ton of car just rolling freely

I mean't if you coast down a hill you'll pick up more speed than if you use your engine to brake aswell, and will need to rely on the brakes more in neutral.

yes I will sometime but the roads I drive on you go up a hill down a hill back up a hill again so the speed i get in neutral going down coasts me up the next hill quite nicely back to the speed i was doing before the rally stage

if your driving economically thats what your supposed to do

build the speed up going down the hill then while your on the hill try to keep the speed constant
