My misses had a exam at uni the other day, she took her book in (as you're aloud) and she forgot to rub out some little notes she wrote in, it was a genuinne mistake, as she would never dream of doing this is a million years.

Anyway, The tutor came round to check everyone books for some reason, he cought the notes in the wenchs book, took the book of her and now she has go in front of a examtion bored.

She is scared shittless. What will happen to her?

Anybody know somebody that its happened to?

Ive taken a thousand exams what with all the things Ive doen and Ive never once sene a cas eof leniency in these matters... its cheatng pure and simple in their eyes, regardless of whether it was unintentional or what, the opportunity for her to cheat was there and they may not rely on her word

How far on is she in Uni?

I've heard they can strip you of every qualification you have gained in that institute

Sorry but would have to agree with Robbo.

Not much you could say to legitimately get yourself out of it TBH.

Nah, don't think she'll get kicked out- I've been done for plagarism ( which is more or less rh same thing) because my Bibliography didn't print out properly and all my footnotes were missing

They accused me of handing it in knowing what I had done

Don't hold me to it but she'll probably get a slap on the wrist and maybe have to re sit or maybe lose marks for the module she was being examined

EDIT: also the might take away her honours and she'll only be able to get the degree.

Plagiarism through bibliography is a very common thing though... a genuine mistake etc due to now knowign howe to done properly... i got told i ahd committed plagiarism in its technical form by Oxfrod Brookes Uni... i just ahd to re-do etc

"Cheatign" in an exam is somethign totally different!

Yep, as I said, any testimonials she can get from her tutors or employers past and present will stand her in good stead I did a quick google and there are some useful little items on there

Plagiarism is where you "steal" somebodys work and pass it off as your own... happens a lot in its technical form where you forget to quote somebody or reference them incorrectly... for example I had quoted somebody in the main body of my dissertation but misquoted them in the bibliography, it therefore looked sort of like my won work but was actually somebody elses

Entirely different thing to beign "caught in possesion of illegal materials" in an exam

Most people write notes and with the stress off the exam you can easily forget you wrote notes in your book.

Id speak to the principal, say it was a genuine mistake plead with them and if they think ruining her career over a genuine mistake is acceptable, they shouldnt be in the teaching profession.

everyone makes mistakes its called being human. If its a genuine mistake, id take it to court whatever the outcome.

Every exam i had at school and college,my pencil case and cover of my calculator had notes in

I hope it all turns out good. She must be feeling really shit.

If she does get punished or what ever, try and get her to say she'll retake the module next year or do a referral for the module.

If she is a student that has attended well, contributed, been perfect in every sense, the Uni would be stupid to let her go imho. Whereas if it was a student that was never there, with shit grades etc than it would be different.

Daft mistake

Hope she can sort it out, be a shame if she gets thrown off for one stupid mistake. I would go with the testimonials, she'll need to be as well armed as possible and very apologetic.

They are very strick im afraid. Chances are she will get a fail and won't be allowed to resit. They can in theory cancel all of her exams because of this.
