Watch out for the vanos, if its the Evo hes after, as you know my mates got one, and its now being re-built becuase one of the shells has warped, caused by lack of oil from a colapsed oil hose.

lovely cars in all aspects i would love one tbh

IIRC high mile-ers or poorly serviced ones can have nikasil problems with the liners or something, dont know anything about it, just remember a friend mentioned it.

Vanos is not a massive problem i dont think, and is not a huge cost to sort out anyway.

But otherwise 6 pot on Inline TB's =

My mate had an Estorial coupe.....lovely car.

Vanos is a scary word among them but if its been regularly serviced it will be fine.

At that age id just be making sure its straight, been looked after etc.

Pay attention to the gearbox aswell as a few my mate test drove were a bit notchy, the guy said there all like that - there not, must be a problem with that model!!

Post 1998 cars used steel liners.

Vanos is cheap to have serviced but if it blocks your looking at oil starvation & a rebuild.

my mate works an bmw indy garage and has the e36 m3 (non evo) and he says they are generally solid cars.

his was on around 150k(1994 L) with a fast road setup and went like stink! plus it never let him down as a daily driver.

the non evo m3 as slightly more robust in the sense that the 5 speed gearboxes are stronger and the single vanos 3.0 unit never has vanos issues.

BUT the m3 evo is newer, has an extra gear and more importantly its faster....but not by much and despite all the horror stories about vanos he said you hardly ever get m3 evos, zm3's etc with vanos issues and a few of his customer cars are road going track beasts. however if it does fail it is a complete pain to replace.

IMO i would snap one up if i could get insured, not quite as good as the e46 m3 but still very fast and with a few tweeks and upgrades can be one hell of a track car

no about average for the evo model, 9k should get you a low milage minter.

the non evos can be had around the 4k mark and if he doesnt mind 5 door then they seem to be slightly cheaper

Guy selling it was a recovery bloke. Think he misread the glass guide

Needed an MoT. It's got it now.... Also had some rust treated and painted and the wheels refurbed in anthracite. Now a very clean looking straight car.

Wonder what it's worth
