Spent lots of time at the weekend getting the winter crap out of the paint ready for another summer of driving. Really dont have a bad word to say about this car- I have never driven anything thats given me so much enjoyment every single time. As a car to use every day I really think they are as good value for money as you could find..... well done Mr Renault.

Lovely car. Girlfriends 197 could do with a thorough clean. Not really touched it since new.
On the other hand, I have a Megane 175 DCi Renaultsport at the minute and the build quality is truly shocking. The clio looks like an Audi in comparison.

Like these more than the Corsa equivalent I think.

What is it like on fuel for an everyday car?

Do they do a fast diesel version like Seat do with the Ibiza?

Fuel is not great but its about the same as my cooper s... if you drive really sensible you will get 30-36 mpg, drive it normally you will get 25-30mpg, I usually get about 20-25 mpg

A good few people on cliosport have moved up from 172's and 182's then sold them on because the fuel consumption was so bad.

My mates driving one of these at minute, looks pretty nice in red with factory tints, brembo's etc and goes ok. He swears by them (as company cars anyway) he's also had a 'GT' 150bhp diesel.

What did they expect from a 2litre hot hatch?

The same sort of mpg as they got in their previous 2.0 litre hot hatches I think.

Kings of Leon - On Call, play that in your 172, makes every single panel/nut/bolt in the car shake.

To be honest I test drove both the 172 and 182 and I decided against both purely based on the build quality - I had no such reservations about the 197. It honestly feels better screwed together than my bmw cooper s did. Of course alot of the renault sport guys are unhappy about the extra weight but imo its a good thing that the quality has gone up even if it has lost a bit of acceleration. The brakes, suspension and esp have all been upgraded and will make up for the loss of straight line speed when you get to a corner. Its more than quick enough to scare yourself silly in.

the 197 is better built than the 172/182. And my 172 is MILLION miles better than my corsa I had.

I loved my Cup though, despite its quirks. Great fun to drive and as I say will soon have another. My local Renault dealership kindly destroyed my old one otherwise I'd probably still have it.

I agree- you may think differently if it was you sat in the dealership with your cheque book - certainly takes the 'value for money element' of the car away if you have that yellow paint.
