Got a job interview at 0915 for a job with no title

Then after I have an exam. If I pass the exam then I shall be flying an aeroplane solo on Sunday afternoon...

Maybe, so long as you're not scared of flying in a tin can that weighs less than a stripped Corsa. Or maybe in a few years when I'm flying for somome like BA or Ryanair

Ed, I take it your doing your PPL then? Are you funding this yourself or being sponsored, as i looked at this route towards the CPL a fair few years ago and it looked like it cost a small fortune....

Anyway good luck with it all!

Yea, on an industrial placement year at the moment. Getting fucked about by every company I come into contact with. The company who I went to see today offered me a job this time last year and I e-mailed and phoned them so many times to follow it all up but never got anywhere. Now today the guy is a bit worried that there isn't enough time left for him to get anything out of me. Frustrating, fucking frustrating. Though he might be able to offer me some work experience which will keep my lecturer happy, but it wont help my bank balance.

Yepp, PPL at the moment. I am seriously considering getting an ATPL and flying airliners for a living as it seems like a pretty good life to lead. BUT, it costs about £80k to take the training. You have to take a commercial student loan out to fund it unless you're minted, but luckily once certified and flying you ought to be earning anywhere in the region £45k-£65k in your first year with somone like Ryanair. Plus with Ryanair you will get your 1500 hours of experiece in about 4 years which means you can be promoted to captain where you will earn somewhere in the region of £90k+++ so the expense of the training isn't all that bad. So long as you are good enough to get a job!

Anyway... Waiting to hear back about the job and passed the exam with 88%! Annoyed because it would have been over 90% but I second guessed myself on a question and got it wrong. Never mind, the pass mark was 75%

cool, nice one! I would still consider it, but i wear glasses so I reckon that might be a bit of a stumbling block and the fact i'm in enough debt as it is, as i try to finish my degree....

Wearing glasses isn't a problem. For a PPL you need a class 2 medical and the doctor passed me without glasses. For a CPL you need a class 1 medical and he said I would pass but i'd need glasses... The money side is a problem though

true, even if i was to get through the medicals theres not a hope in hell i could get hold of that sort of money.... Id quite like to do my PPL eventually though, depends if I ever get a job that pays a decent wage!

I looked into piloting as well but the 60k costs also put me off.

I was looking at the jobs and they didn't look to start at anywhere near 45k though, was just normal wages 25-30 for the 1st couple of years, then onto nearer 45.

I went to the Flyer Professional Pilot Training show in April and watched seminars from Ryanair who quoted those figures in the seminar, they also have publications quoting those figures. The seminar from Netjets didn't quote and figures, but I spoke to the recruitment guy after who quoted figures in that region. British Airways were a bit more secretive by only saying that thier pay rates were competitive, but they are in a similar but slightly lower region to those two. I also know a first officer who flies with Ryanair who is on £47k a year, I believe he is in his second or third year with them...

Fair enough, must have just been the comany I looked at.

Whatever company it was the training was also in new zealand for 6 months or something, that would be quite good.
