How do you guys carry your bikes in/on your car?
At the moment I just flatten all the seats down, and take both wheels off the bike. But as you can imagine, this is a complete ball ache.
Considered a hook on/strap bike rack like this:

but ever since one dropped on dads 5 series BMW and dented the boot, I don't really like them.
Another option is a roof mounted one, but don't fancy ruining the fuel economy of my car by having a roof rack on all the time.
Then the option is tow bar mounted, and something like this:

but I'd need tow bar fitting, electrical hookup, and somewhere to store the rack. This is also an expensive proposition.
The ultimate, has to be this though (excuse the bikes):

but I don't have a Corsa D
So yeah, considering a few of us drive Corsa's/similar hatches, what racks do you have? Have you ever had any problems with it shifting whilst driving?

Yeah, I know, but isn't it illegal if your number plate and lights are obscured etc?

It doesn't, but the ones on the Laguna and the 306 come off in minutes if you don't want to drive around with them on. It barely makes any difference when fully loaded with bikes. Drove around for months with the roof rack on the 306. It's the easiest way IMO as it doesn't obscure windows or get in the way when parking or anything.

I have a boot rack. Does the job nicely and is adjustable so I can put in a saloon or hatch which is quite usefull if you use more than one car

Don't you ever have any fear of it coming off whilst driving etc and completely ruining your car?

I have a nice big work van that can quite happily fit 3 bikes and all the kit plus 3 in the front

Tow bar mounted is one of the easiest for safety and ease of mounting the bikes,
we've got tow bar, 3x roof mounts and one of those hook things .... i tend to stick with the tow bar mounted.

Same as that, but anywhere long distance I'd most likely make a day of it and go with dad and we use his van.
Just pain in the arse if I want to pop out in my car and have to take the bike to bits for a 20min journey.
I guess a 'normal' rack would be best.

a roof rack would be the best idea i reckon if you don't like the boot mounted versions. The roof rack on a corsa takes literally 5 minutes to set up, as it clamps to the fixed positons on the roof and if you've still got the bike rack attached to the bars, they'll be in the perfect positon ready to clamp up after the first fitting....
Those kits are more expensive than the rear mounted ones tho.... the boot mounted ones can come with steel straps now that are sized to suit the specific car. These fit in the top and bottom of the boot itself and are considered to be slightly more rigid compared to the strap method, but i've never had any probs with ours....

Also, I'm a weakling and don't think I'll be able to lift my Demo onto the roof On another note, I'd want a roof rack which means you take the front wheel off, so I may as well put it in the boot

And I definitely read and heard that even by having roof bars on the car i.e. over the roof not along the roof, it has an affect on fuel economy.
