a dump valve? i know they sound chav etc but heard a tdi leon with one on last night and it sounded really nice  .
tbf i didnt realise you could get them for diesel engines but looks like you can  so tempted to go and get a price on one.

doesnt matter if there petrol or diesel if they have a turbo you can have one..
i think there shite!!
had one on my rs turbo (efi) and it chatterd like fuck, sounded way better than a dumpvalve but once i had loads of chavs come up to me n say that needs a dumpvalve mate, and walked off making dumpvalve noises..

you can obviously get different brands which make different sounds..
imo the standard wastegate makes the best noise!

I put an induction kit on mine and it spools up loud and then makes the dump sound when you let off but sounds more like darth vader  Think the principle will be the same with your engine as i believe they recirc like mine does?

Sounds like what mine does.
I've got a Forge Split R so you can have a sound if you like as well as it being a Recirc.

You don't need a dump valve on a TDi. It's a fuck load of effort for no gain and you are just bolting on a bit of over complicated crap.

On a petrol engine you have a throttle body which opens and closes to allow air to flow through. Your turbo will compress the air into the inlet manifold but when you lift off the throttle closes and there will be air stuck in between the turbo compressor wheel and the closed throttle. The air will go backwards and stall the turbo, or make the turbo run backwards. Thats where the dump vlave comes in. As the pressure behind the throttle in the inlet manifold drops the dump valve is opened by a vacuum pipe which dumps the trapped air to the atmosphere or recirculates it back into the intake side of the turbo in some cases.
On a turbo diesel engine you don't have a throttle so air cannot be trapped. Therefore you can't use a dump valve without some form of electronic actuation or in some cases they are attached to the brake servo for some reason. But as you have no where to trap the air there is absolutely no point in having one unless you like the sound or something.

spot on, that turbo noise is what is also gets called "wastegate chatter" which is wrong (for others not ed)
