Nice dad wanted one of these, but the 2nd hand market hasn't really grown yet.
He got a 3 door instead. He's very impressed with the 120d engine, after coming from an E46 M3.

what engine?
the 135i looks to be an awesome machine. apparently they refused an M1 because the 135 was already as quick as an M3.

would love a white bmw after the focus, looks absolutely awesome (and bloody frightening in your rear view mirror)
bmw have definitely come a long way with the new aggressive shapes

120d is sufficient as you know. I wasnt that impressed with the 123d in all honesty.

The 123d is essentially the same engine, i.e. 2 litres but is twin turbo.
The basic theory is, it uses the smaller turbo for low down revs and larger turbo for higher revs. This then eliminates turbo lag and makes it a much quicker car, supposedly.
Dad has the BMW Efficient Dynamics thing in his, which means it cuts out when you stop etc he says it works really well and there isn't any delay.
Incidentally, the 118d with BMW Efficient Dynamics has been voted the greenest car, ahead of, surprise surprise, the Prius.

yeah have that on my 120D now
I have heard mixed reviews about the 123D
I.e yes its a great engine but not that different to the 120D
Sooner have the 120D with toys rather than a standard 123D

I agree - 123d will only put your insurance up too for not a lot of difference.

still maintaining a 50/50 weight distribution too iirc? Thats the key to the fantastic drive along with RWD.

Yeah - on AutoMundial (sp?) on Men&Motors profiled a 123d Coupe and they have near 50/50 weight distribution.
