These would be fairly easy to manage... two are basically data entry clerks and the other is very proficient in her role

Would give good exposure to things like dealing with personal circumstances, appraisals etc.

I have managed two trainee's in the past, put me off forever tbh. I would hate all the HR and appraisal stuff and being accountable for other people. I suppose unless you want to be a technical expert in your chosen field (with probably limited opportunities) you can avoid it but as you say it'll give good exposure to new skills.

Good luck bob

Manage between 70-120 depending on production requirements. Very challenging, particularly when dealing with peoples personel circumstances, gripes, disciplinaries etc etc. Just got to remember you can never please everybody and its a must to be seen to treat everybody the same.

Older people are often a little more difficult to manage, I'm 27, and all but a handful of my staff are older than me, lots are 45-65 years old.

I manage 7 people, All at least 10 years older.

2 are about 30 years older than me and nearing retirement.

Quite funny walking into meetings being under half everyones age

As mentioned above, its hard work and often stressfull, but so rewarding when you build a good team around you. Delegation is paramount, when I first went into it I was always trying to do everything on my own, but you learn to recognise the skills and potential of others and offer them responsibility. You are bound to upset people along the way, particularly when it comes to disciplinaries etc, I escorted somebody off site just before crimbo and have had 4 tyres slashed since!!!(fuckin expensive 18's aswell the bastard ).

Overall mate, I'm happy I went into management, its a real eye opener

I would hate to sack anyone I would also hate hearing people's personal issues etc, would be hard to stay detached imo. Although I do have a ruthless streak.

Rob, delegation FTW (for everything), then go learn to play golf

Im the manager of 7 one week and 22 the next week and then 7 the next week and so on..

Its fun at first but it gets stressful, Not only have you to do your own job but you have to make sure 20 others are doing theres and doing it correctly.

Then when they get problems, Its your problem.

Its deffo a hard job and very demanding but it has its rewards.
