list in the procedure used for checkiong the condition and serviceablity of a constant velcoity joint
and
explain why a aconstant velocity joint is fitted to a front wheel drive transmission care?
is it due to the wheel changing height due to the suspension and terrain?
thanks guys

cv joint is to maintain drive a range of angles

basicly because the front wheel is used to steer and the joint allows full rotation at any amount of driveshaft plunge. and because the wheel is never in a fixed position compared to the driveshaft, without the CV joint the driveshaft would snap as soon as the height of the suspension changed or the steering wheel was turned.

CV joint is to allow the steering wheels to turn together while having different speeds (the outer wheels spins faster - think about it) to allow safe cornering. consider wheel spinning while one wheel is on tarmac, the other on muddy ground (like parked outside a house) the wheel on the grass will spin and spin but the wheel with grip on the tarmac will slowly creep forward moving the car in a straight line.....all due to the CV joint, maintains a CONSTANT VELOCITY of the VEHICLE when the wheels are spinning at different speeds

^^ thats the purpose of the differential fonz
as said above the point of the CV joint is to keep a constant velocity at any angle on any axis of movement which allows wheels to turn etc..
compared to a universal joint which locks when you get to a certain angle

They are called constant velocity joints because the maintain the same speed through 360 degrees whatever the angle of the joint (within reason) A universal joint on the other hand actually speeds up and slows down and isnt much good after about 20 degrees of bend iirc
