im curious about the igniton system, as it doesn't apear to have ht lead's in the normal place

Looks like a dizzyless ignition with a coil pack similar to what they use on the 12v's

surprised its not got a reverse head like the old redtop'd touring cars, but suppose it wouldn't gain THAT much for the expense.

I bet they're not using a cork gasket on the sump.

Whats the small metal cylindrical bit attached to a hose that goes to drivers side rad/thermostat housing? Seems to lead up to another cylindrical bit (don't think its the header tank)?

Swirl pot.

I think the other tank is probably for the sump.

So if they are using a tuned version of this engine, does that mean that Chevrolet are using this engine in their current cars. BTCC engine have to be based on production engines don't they? :S
If that is the case i can see a lot of smashed chevs being pillaged for their engines.
