In the office at work, saw the flash which was quite bright.
Not sure how long the delay was, probably about a second, but then there was the most almighty thunder clap i've heard 
set several car alarms off in the car park, plus the building alarms, and the phones have gone dead aswell.
It fully shook the office. I was quite excited.
My wood has only just subsided.

so wqas it a close strike or just a close sound has it hit anywhere? the 1 sec delay just means storm is on top of you

i presume it must have hit within a couple of hundred meters because the phones are down. it was the rumble that made the moment though.
It was a pretty naff storm apart from that really. passed over quite quickly. rain wasn't that intense.

why do car alarms go off with thunder etc
I've set some off with my exhaust before now and don't know why? Is it the vibrations

The crane thats building the flat opposite mine, got stuck by lightning. Its probably about 20m away from here, scared the SHIT out of me!
