My e36 325 has been written off, and now i need to find a replacement.
Will have about £1000 to spend.
The BM was a great car and when it got trashed i was hoping to get it back, or just replace it again with another similar one.
Since then i've borrowed a mates saxo vtr for a few weeks to get about, and have really enjoyed driving it.
When i first got the 325 i was well impressed with how it was built, how it drove, and how solid it felt, and vowed not to go back to a hatchback again after discovering German goodness. But now after having enjoyed the saxo so much, i'm thinking about getting an early VTS.
What do people think?
Coices for a saloon type car are probably as follows
E36 325/323/328
possibly merc c200
saab 900 turbo
saab 9000 turbo
or for something smaller:
saxo vts
106 rallye
xsara vts
309 gti
?
Can anyone suggest something else or give input on the options listed above please.
Also if any of you are selling one of the above for around £1k, or know someone who is, please let me know.
cheers

my previous one was £800 and was fantastic. Not imacculate, but pretty good condition. 134k miles with m3 wheels as well.
saloons are usually a little cheaper than the coupe, but i'm not too bothered about that anyway.

You will grow weary of the saxo! And at the end of the day itl be not as practical or reliable

For something 100k+ miles, I would go for something German, and not the Saxo, imho.

the more i think about the 309 the less keen i get
it only has 1month test and tax, and is quite expensive for what it is. sure the goodwood is rare, but it's a 5dr like you say Tom.
I'll go for a look, and i might be impressed by it. he says price is negotiable within reason, but i'm not sure i'd part with the cash for it.

it's a bit different. don't think i've seen one on the road for a while. you see scores of saxo's every day, but they're popular for a reason.
I think it's a toss up between a 325 or a vts at the mo. whichever i get i'll wish i'd have chosen the other.
