Headed to Halifax/bradford area (Clapton i think?) yesterday to test drive this turbo HKS converted EK9 i found.

To be honest i was expecting an alright car, like with most conversions/modde cars, but this was like it was fresh out of the factory.

The only things we found in a half hour check was a small gearbox oil leak, and a chip in the windscreen.

Took it for a test drive and my lord We only used 6500rpm (limit of 9500) and its pretty mental. The sound of the turbo spooling up is as loud as the exhaust, and the chatter when changing gear is lovely

Just thought i'd warn you I will be getting it if i can sort out issues with the Nova concerning money etc

woohoo.

no.

the gear knobs are aluminium, and shaped like those TVR style indicator stalks.

You grab it with a fist if you get me, the gearbox is soooooooooooo tight and nice,

Also has a twin plate clutch, so you really shoot off the line.

on low boost around 220bhp and 200lbs of torque.

Higher boost around 235bhp and 225lbs of torque the dude said.

Will easily do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. The standard does it in 5.7

0-60 isnt really important but is to give you an idea

When we test drove it it was running low boost coming in at about 3500rpm to give torque, then the vtec kicked in at about 5.5k, the guy said with it set up you only need to change at about 8000rpm

oh. i just pm'd the guy on ek9.org forum to check proper power figures.

The kit is a 5000 dollar HKS kit, capable of being set to 300bhp on standard internals when RR'd and dyno'd on high (but reasonable) boost

Think i'll be sending it off to an RR if/when i get it as it has a black box which is kind of like standalone management.

it is possible as a mate of mine from leeds had one totally standard bar a spoon back box.

Set off about 3000rpm double clutch to counter the crappy torque

on this.

the turbo spools quite low - around 3500, and the vtec controller is set so vtec starts barking at about 5500/6000

If it only starts spooling at 3.5 it must be fairly laggy. Most probably starts spooling before that just not significant enough to feel. May be wrong tho.
