I am planning on painting the arches and bumper tops in the summer but i need some advice on what to buy and some tips on prepping and applying paint/laquer etc? Cheers Scott

I know already 1 or 2 things i need

halfords Gloss black rattle cans- How many cans?
Halfords plastic primer- How many cans?

Hoping to look like this when done excuse the wheels

just use autoglym plastic care stuff. works a treat

Cheers so do i need to rub it down properly till its smooth then apply plastic primer?

Yeah, i use 180 grit, then 320 grit, then 500 grit, panel wipe it, making sure its free from any grease/dust/dirt etc, prime it, i then rub primer down a little with 800 grit, panel wipe again, then paint, leave to dry, laquer. Ive just done 2 sets of wheels, look fine

i meant instead of faffing around painting them dude, auto glym plastic care stuff turns it all back to dark plastic and last for ages!

Nah mate he just has Gloss black GSi alloys and his trim is still the origional black plastic

Nah im bored of the dull looking colour atm so i want a change I am also thinking about arden blue aswell so its fully colour coded Just a bit nervous of fuckin it up and dont have the money for bodyshop prices

Dont do arden blue with rattle cans mate, will be a different colour, try black but i would never do a standard colour.

Also give the laquer a good t-cut and polish afterwards and it will come up really shiny (DIY answer to mopping and polishing)

Wish it was just a matter of mask the area up to avoid over spray then plastic prime then paint then laquer

if you dont get rid of the dimples then the paint wont stick to the surface properly and will cause orange peel mate, i think haha
