Wondered if I might ask for some comments and criticism on a design I have done for a personal photo gallery - I have plenty of web space already, so thought might as well design something

Came up with the concept below:

Now obviously it isn't a web page yet, but thats easily sorted.....really just after immediate thoughts - where might you click to see more images first for example?

Any comments appreciated - if its crap and I have to start again, so be it - just say so

very different style to what i have ever seen (by means of the picture as the bg)

I would suggest your buisness card reflects your logo on the website, althouh i like both logo's.

Craft up a site and go with it, It can always be changed or taken down.

I would move home/gallery/etc to the top left.

Imo i think it would look better there. Don't know why

Thanks for the comments.

Didn't realise it was quite so big, so lopped a bit off the bottom on my test version. Also turned it into a webpage now.......need to upload that now.

What I've done is use the background as the navigation - so the post it note can be clicked for contact details - the photos go to the gallery. Thats part the reason why I put the text links to the bottom right, as not everyone will use them.

The big space on the bottom left is where information pops up - so you click the post it note, and a piece of paper appears in the bottom left to give the details. Hopefully it'll all look quite smooth, although I'm thinking that it could end up taking a few seconds to load which isn't very handy :/

Once I get it uploaded you'll see what I've done.......just realised that I'll need to buy the web address first though - doh!

The text links are just image rollovers and highlight in white. The bits of the background also light up with a white sort of halo to make it obvious that you can click them

Fineliners are ace

could be a really cool page... you should have the fineliners in black and white and then when you roll overthem they go to colour!!! lol also the note pad could be where people can leave emails or something...

Great idea on the fineliners, love that

Not sure what I'll use the notepad for yet - displaying emails with a bit too 'public'. Could be quotes commenting on my work I suppose, but if no-one comments I'm fucked

Will also be adding a photo album/gallery which will open up to almost cover the desk image - leave like 1" around the edge and display all the latest images in the middle which I think should work well

Also, gallery to be uploaded tomorrow hopefully, but not working for the moment.

Not really a fan of the picture andy. All this pen and pad stuff is so cliche if you get me.

Would admit the picture isn't ideal, but I like the idea myself.

Been trawling quite a few other photography sites and not many use something on a similar strain, and it seems a good way to make it clear that its a photography site.

Suggestions on improvements would be good though, good or bad. You reckon start again?

I reckon using a picture of something you take photos of. It says Sports and Action photography and theres a picture of pens and a desk.

Also ive been told stuff in the bottom right i a bad place to put navigation as if people are running a low res screen if the window needs resizing it may cut it out. Somewhere on the left is better.

If you fancy a look at mine andy click my sig

Hmm, I see what you're saying.

Having checked it on a smaller screen and you're quite right, navigation does get lost so will make the whole lot a touch smaller to fit.

Did have a look at yours, nice work

Only thing I'm not keen on personally is scrolling sideways for photos - users hate scrolling and I'm sure you can some up with something more flashy - image rollover to automatically scroll perhaps?

Can't use flash and im not a fan of flashy sites anyway, usually take ages to load and i don;t like something which comnstantly scrolls until you roll over, always pisses me off when i look at photo sites like that.

My fave is Lara Jades so i based mine on that

Didn't mean flash itself, just more 'flashy' - interesting - special etc etc. I don't like using flash either - unwieldy IMO.

I came across a javascript based image scroller a while back, will try and find it for you tomorrow
