that doesn't explain much, it looks like it scoops the air, then turns so the piston can suck the air out the pocket, in this case there would be bugger all air getting in

piston falling creates a vacum hence it will take any air being offered

Same as a 2 stroke engine or a rotary, the 'cams' won't just have little cups in, it'll be opening a port which allows the air to flow through into the bore.

Doesn't say what engine that's for though, could be a single cylinder 5cc engine
