Application process is VERY hard, wouldn't recommend it but the feeling you get when you recieve the letter is immense. Obviously different forces are totally different, and although they have the same assessment centre, application form etc, they have different pass rates. Fitness test is just basis seated bench press (push and pull of 34 and 35kg) and the bleep test where you have to get 5.4 on. You get fitness tests all through your first 2 years and you are expected to improve throughout

My girlfriends brother is waiting on his home visit which is the last part of the process and his has been a very hard working build up.

The shit you go through etc is unreal, MUCH more intense than being a firefighter.

My Mums, mates, Son has been in the police since he left school...He's 25 now, drives Porsche Canyenne, has a penthouse in Glasgow and a share in a flat in California.

Now the little prick is waiting on a letter back to confirm when he starts in the traffic department.

There is no 'looseness' giving, If you fail by a bawhair then you fail, End of.

You can be ideal and the perfect cop up untill the last part of the application and if they dont like the type of buisness your grandpa was in the y will reject you.

Also, If any of your family have a criminal record then your almost onto plums.

P.s Dont let Dan in your police car.

No, He was adivsed to do this by some agency but all the cops he spoke to advised him to dive head first into it.

Application form isnt too bad, just dont bullshit on it, they will catch you out. As for the assessment centre, this took me 6 hours, we had no breaks, basically was 2 written statements (quite easy), mates and verbal logical which werent too bad either, the interview was a bit of a bastard, especially as you kinda know what you're going to be asked, but they then word the questions so any planned answers you were expecting to say are out the window. The worst part however is the role play, these are 40 minutes long, put in a room with 5 mins breifing about a problems, then 5 minutes in a room with someone irrate who just starts shouting at you as you enter the room. It's quite unnerving and these people often will not listen to any reasoning! They can often just stand and repeat themselves which can worry you as you dont know if what youre saying is right or not. This process is repeated with 4 different situations. Then some forces do the final interview, most do not, this is not how skilled you are etc, its just about why you want to work for police, your motivations, and why you chose that particular force.

no family is never been in trouble, mother is a lawyer, my dad owned his own garage, sister has made a name for herself in fashion industry. so that should be all ok, never been on file or any problems with the police... only when i crashed my bike, only thing i supose they could say no on is i had counseling before... but i cant see that being a problem, dad died and was advised it from gp

Plus be aware of the difficult shift patterns as a lot of people aren't used to them, plus on your first day of self defense training you get kicked to shit

The whoel thing about not getting in first time to see if you reapply thing is bullshit, a lot of people say it. They do like you to have experience, but apparently the thing that does stop most people on first attempt is they purely dont know what to expect at the assessment centre so mess it up. its a mentally challenging day

Ive left the sheet at home that explains what the first 2 years involves, but if my lovely other half is reading this feel free to find it for me
You don't get your uniform for 15 weeks I think it is, untill then you'll be based somewhere (I know Im based at Durhams headquarters), where you do first aid, self defence etc in first few weeks, then you're out somewhere in the community for a week, eg working with mental health patients or social workers, then start the classroom stuff, all the introduction to the law etc. In the first 2 years you must do a NVQ in, a lot of which is done in the classroom, but you'll also be going out with experienced officers on the beat once you have your uniform, learning how to take statements, etc, but also may be put on suicide watch for 12 hours etc as custody Get pay rise after first 32 weeks, and then again when you qualify. Oh and at the beginning of the training, you have to be sworn in at court infront of a judge

Written test was 2 statements, even though they change every 6 months, IIRC you're not allowed to discuss what they were about after doing them you get 20 minutes per statement, and it's just about how you would deal with a certain complaint/problem/threat
