on the news today and each time i hear it it makes me madd
northern ireland want to start enforcing the following rules
1) banning people from under 20 from carrying passengers
they say - it will cut down fatal accidents
my opinion - it wont cut down anything at all... it will mean there will be more younger drivers on the road as they cant get lits of friends thus increasing emmisions etc, so its totally pointless
2)ban under 20's from driving in dark (basically said you can drive between 9-6).
they say - again to cut down fatal accidents
my opinion - this is totally unreasonable how are people supposed to get to and from work? i just cant get my head around how they can claim this will help cut down accidents yes it will get younger drivers off the road at night but imo i prefer driving at night especially on country roads as you can tell when cars are round corners etc.
3)limiting under 20's to 45mph
again claim it will cut down accidents
what happens when/if they are on national speed limit roads? that means there will be loads of people pissed off behind the poor driver potenitially making people behind pull dangerous manovers to take over.
they just arent thinking about it resonably about these. they are totally unfair on young drivers imo .
hopefully wont get enforced/passed but still makes me mad they even come up with such stupid ideas
sorry for the essay&rant but ffs its rediculous.
this is probally a repost

Stupid rules tbh. All it will do is mean that when drivers hit 20 they will start to do stupid things instead of doing them at the age of 17 IMO

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Guy on the radio this morning made a lot of valid arguments for it as well. Ultimately if it means young drivers stop wiping themselves and their friends out it's a good idea.

even worse on a motorway imo, means you'll have people doing 70+ realising they want to get off next junction which sometimes they leave to last minute so they will either cut them up or slam up and get behind, and youll have more lorrys in the middle lane over taking cars it'll just generate slower moving traffic/jams

because under 20's are apparently 5 times more likely to crash

I remember reading on Pistonheads that the elderly are 3 times more likely to crash than people from the "boy racer" age group. Why arent they enforcing rules for them???

They crash in Ireland because it's common practice to overtake cars doing 90 on a blind bend/crest of a hill.

While driving on roads in Ireland, doing about 90 miles per hour, it iis quite common for somebody, normally in a vectra, to come flying up beside you on the brow of a blind hill because you aren't going fast enough.
This causes crashes when there happens to be somebody on the correct side of the road coming in the opposite direction at the same time.
