Right, I own my own house and the girlfriend of 3 years has been living with me since december 2007. She was paying me £250 rent and splitting cost of food. She recently stopped her full time job and went part time as she is doing a colleage course. I dropped her rent to £175 as I could manage with this. The agreement is we split the cost of food. I pay mortgage and all bills.
Now she has lost her part time job. I said I can let her off a months rent. Thing is she doesnt really seem arsed about getting another job, although she might be starting one thats come up but its just 16 hours a week (£380 per month) I'm having to pay for all the bills and food leaving me with fcuk all money. I've said to hjer she needs more hours due to rent, food, going out etc!
Now if it was a lodger, I'd tell them to pay up or move out. Kind of stuck what to do to be honest. If she moves back to her parents I reckon I'd get a mate to move in and pay rent.
Any ideas or suggestions? I dont wanna be a cnut! Serious replied only please ( no "pics please" etc :lol

Have you spoke to her about it yet?
What i mean is, have you said to her "Whats happening about rent since you lost your job?"

Just let her know that without her working your struggling. If she gets this new job then she can pay you £175 again.
How many bedrooms have you got ? If you have more than one you could be sly and say as money's tight your thinking about renting the spare room to a mate.

Aaron, I've told her that I'd let her off 1 month. I've told her that she'll need to start paying again, and she has said it seither fine or said I can't afford it so will move back home to parents.

I've told her I.m struggling, and she's like 'you're the one who wanted a house etc'
I've got a spare bedroom so might think about letting it out to a mate, or one of her mates

pics of mates
As long as you don't mind having someone in your house then do it. It'll save you money and if your gf gets a job aswell even less that your paying out.
And you have a drinking buddy when your gf's not around

Is she a bit dim because if you can't afford the run the flat then your going to have to either give it up or move someone else in?. Moving back with parents is going to feel like a step backwards in your relationship if you've been living together for a bit.
You sure she doesn't want out? .
She can stay at mine rent free if she likes

If it was me, i'd put my foot down and get her to move out tbh. But thats just me, i can be very harsh when it comes to money.

I agree. I don't think my GF would be that stupid. If she genuinely lost her job, then she'd be smart enough to have a backup.

If she's actively looking for another job then fair enough, but if she's not arsed about getting another job, you need to tell her to sort it out pronto if she wants to keep living there with you for the reasons you've stated (i.e. you cannot afford to pay for everything).

If I lost a job, i'd be straight out working again. She was told about a job in the local threshers which is offering more hours and is practically hers if she wants it, she got the application form and now doesnt think its for her. FFS JUST TAKE THE JOB AND STOP UMMING AND ARRING!

Its pisses me off that I'm working 9-5 all week then also doing 8 hours at the weekend overtime.
Gonna tell her to pull her weight. She does bugger all housework too!

True.
My parents divorced last year and both have a 4 bed house each. I was tempted to just rent the house up and move back to one of my parents (disposable income!!). However I love haveing my own place and can do what I want there!

always a nice idea to move back and let your own place out however, in reality, like you say, independance is great...so not always the solution

Most people don't like going to work, I doubt she's any different. I'd imagine she'd try and take the piss for as long as she can. Girls love day time TV.

I think ure being fair to be honest, just tell her the situation that you can't afford to pay out for two it's better to be honest! It's not on that she is milking it expecting you to subsidise her too, you need to explain to her that you love having her there but get off your hind and find a job or find other living arrangements!
