Suspicious partners have moved beyond rifling through trouser pockets for receipts and scouring the credit card bills, One in 5 of us now check up on our partner emails or texts, according to research published by Oxford Uni. Last year a survey of woman using Internet found that 77% said they would look up a man’s internet history, Maybe the same percentage used to check for lipstick on the collar, but the figures do seem high. Are partners really less trustworthy these days? Is technology making us all paranoid? Or is there something else going on here?
In our house, we read each others texts all the time, because three of us have identical phones and none of us can recognise which is which until we’ve clicked on the little yellow envelope and found and inappropriate message (“UR gay” , Find someone extra for 5 a side”) So far, no nasty surprises (I’m in the room”, “Re-mortgage complete”), but its interesting how intimate the most innocent of texts – like emails – seem, compared with a phone conversation or face to face communication.
You can say “I’ve missed you” to a mate over the phone, but see it written down and it looks like a mini love letter. If someone calls his girlfriends “my love” in person, in an email..ewwww – not quiet the same thing. The peculiar fact is that if its on screen, its automatically sexy. In a text, the most innocuous statement looks like “I am hot for you” – “Are you there?”, “Shall I pick you up”, “I’m outside” – and everyone is funnier, more charming, more courteous and more generous in type than in the flesh. You send text and email kissed to people whom you’ve never kissed, You tell acquaintances they are great and they look fantastic, friends that you missed them and love them. Everyone loves everyone in email. Alcohol may loosen your inhibitions, but access to a keyboard- as Lee Jasper, Ken Livingston a former race advisers, will testify – is just as effective. Whether you are a short, punchy texter or a big expansive novelist of an e-mailer, the chanced are you communicate via technology, in a way that is more intimate than you manage face to face.
My theory) not scientifically tested) is that the snoopers in the survey are a A) Really nosy, B)Living with the wrong person, and C)Mesmerised by the intimacy their partners are capable of demonstrating. They can see a potential affair in an exchange about parking premised with the girl from the council, because they don’t recognise the charming smooth-talker they see before them on the screen.
This is why snooping is to be discouraged at all costs, Not because it invades someone else’s privacy ( though obviously that is not on if you know you are going it ), but because even the innocent look guilty as sin.

One of my ex's told some lass (who he was also seeing for 6 months as well as me) he didn't have a mobile, but used to text her off the 02 website. I caught him on it once, daft sod used the same username and password for everything. He was sending this lass the same texts as he was sending me.
Clever... but not clever enough...

Agreed!! Sometimes what you don't know or see can't hurt you sites such as facebook etc can cause problems.
I think aswell it's much easier to send texts or emails rather than talk to someone properly

facebook has completely changed where people go out around here (s/east) alot of people now go to the same events/clubs, just because everyone else is, club nights now only use facebook for promotion, gone are the days of flyering & advertising posters.
But chatting up girls is ALOT easier now due to facebook, see a bird you like, look up the club pics for that night, find her, give her a poke, message her, stalk her to the next event she goes to and BAM, youre in.
Can also get away with alot via text, i like picture messages

Dave, I've been stalking you on Facebook for a while now. So all I need to do now is go down to London for a night out and I'm in?!
