To hire either a) a boxvan type thing (preferably with a tail lift) or b) a transit van style van?

I assume Transit would be cheaper but could I fit say, a sofa, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a desk in the back of one?

we hired a merc sprinter a couple of weeks ago for our fishing trip. i had to drive it because i was 25 witha clean licence. that was the rental firms rules though. transits come in a few different sizes these days so you may get all that gear in one.

You reckon I could get a sofa (2 seater) in the back of a galaxy people carrier, then get the other furniture later? I can get a people carrier for free + plus it would make the 100 mile roundtrip a bit less arduos.....

Most places won't let anyone under 21 hire a vehicle and a lot of place want you to be 25.

My dad can have anyone driving his van but they have to be 25 or over.

Which reminds me...what is the form you need to apply to the DVLA for a new clean licence?

I had 3 points but they came off my licence last July...

Since when did the period before they come off your licence go up to 4 years??

"Offence codes TS10 to TS70 must stay on a driving licence for four years from date of offence."

Got mine in July 2004 (might be 2003 I need to check)...so I potentially have to wait until July....

Feckers

To remove:

You’ll need to:

complete a D1 ‘application for a driving licence’ available from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) form ordering service or any Post Office® branch
enclose your photocard driving licence, paper counterpart and the appropriate fee (there’s no need to supply a new photograph)
if your name has changed you'll also need to provide original documentation confirming your new name
send all your documents to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AB

Well can I assume the 04 plate Galaxy is much bigger than Scenic? I think it is.....and it would have passenger and drivers seat only cos the others just come straight out

Ive seen a 2 seater sofa in the back of a 3dr focus (with boot tied down) was only hanging out the back by 1/2 a foot. I work for an auctioneers and I am often in the saleroom with modern furniture, so see a lot of furniture going into cars of all sizes!

And a normal size transit will easily fit all of those in!

Don't know of a single company in the area that hire to under 21's. People carrier is the best bet.
Could always hire a trailer and tow it if you have the option (Portland Towing in Lincoln hire them cheap).

Norflex own East Midlands Vehicle Hire, and we get our lease van from them. Great service, usually.

You can hire a Transit van for £60 a day if you are under 25 (over 21) from Thrifty.
